DIARRHOEA HITS CHILABOMBWE
By Julius Sakala
Some parts of Chililabombwe district on the Copperbelt have reported cases of diarrhoea due to inadequate supply of water.
Acting District Commissioner Prince KAPUTUTULA has confirmed.
Dr KAPUTULA said this when he briefed Minister of Water Development Mike MPOSHA who called on him at his office.
He explained that many residential areas are experiencing a shortage of water.
Dr Kaputula, who is also District Health Director, says this has led to diahhrea related cases.
He has also told Mr MPOSHA that some newly developing residential areas are also not connected to water.
He says people in these areas are relying on shallow wells and private borehole.
And Mr MPOSHA, who is on a familiarization tour of water installations in district, has directed authorities to increase water supply.
The minister says Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation company must do more to help health authorities to contain the disease outbreaks.
Mr MPOSHA is, however, hopeful that water supply in Chililabombwe will improve with the outlined investment programmes in the water sector.
Meanwhile, Mr Mposha has advised district authorities to work with the council to implement water and Sanitation projects using the Constituency Development Fund.
He was speaking in an interview, after touring Kamenza East, a newly developing residential area in Chilabombwe.
