Drug availability stabilising-Masebo
Health Minister SYLVIA MASEBO says Government is in the process of stabilizing the purchase and supply of Drugs in the country.
Mrs. MASEBO says there have been challenges in the process because procurement has been moved from the Ministry of health to ZAMSA.
She says Government is also concerned with the artificial drug shortages controlled by some cartels that Government has blacklisted from the health system and will have it addressed soon.
Mrs. MASEBO was speaking when she officiated at the commemoration of the international day of the midwife in Kabwe, Central Province.
Meanwhile, Midwives Association of Zambia MAZ President SARAH NGOMA said the statistics of losing close to 80 babies per week calls for immediate intervention.
And United Nations Population Fund UNFPA Country Director GIFT MALUNGA said increasing the number of midwives and enhancing their education can address deaths that are preventable.
And Kabwe Mayor PATRICK CHISHALA said every woman deserves the best quality care during delivery, hence the need to have a qualified and professional team of midwives in the country.
