ELEPHANTS CAUSE DESTRUCTION
By Moombe Hamoobola
Elephants have brought down part of the perimeter wall at Zambezi Sawmills Primary School, which is in a township that is near the Mosi-oa Tunya National Park in Livingstone.
Zambezi Sawmills Primary School Parent Teacher Association Chairperson Patrick Namakondo has told ZNBC News that the school has abandoned its Production Unit programme because of frequent elephant attacks.
Mr. Namakando says the school invested in various agricultural projects to raise money but that the ventures were abandoned because of elephant raids.
He said it is not the first time that the elephants have destroyed the perimeter at the same school.
And Livingstone District Education Board Secretary Aiden Kambunga has said the destruction of the perimeter wall by elephants is affecting the quality of learning at the school.
Mr. Kambunga has observed that the destruction has also exposed the school property to vandalism because trespassers use illegal routes through the school grounds.
Southern Region Department of National Parks and Wildlife Senior Warden, Charles Simwanza has told ZNBC News that he will comment on the matter after his office has assessed the damage the elephants have caused.
