Find alternative land for Mount Meru,Kitwe City Council told
Paul Shalala-Local Government and Rural Development Minister GARY NKOMBO has directed the Kitwe City Council to find alternative land and relocate Mount Meru which intends to construct a filling station at a play park.
Mr. NKOMBO says the local authority must relocate the energy company away from the piece of land in Parklands which is usually used by children to play football.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Kitwe Mayor MPASA MWAYA today, Mr. NKOMBO said the land in question is not conducive for a filling station.
He has asked the local authority to ensure this process is done as soon as possible.
The play park is located on the Kitwe-Chingola road in Parklands area of Kitwe.
And on the much talked about dilapidated Chibuluma Road, Mr. NKOMBO said he is going to engage the National Road Fund Agency to release funds for the project.
Earlier, Kitwe Town Clerk MBULO SEKE asked the Minister to help source for funding for Chibuluma Road.
Mr. MBULO said the six kilometer stretch is heavily dilapidated and needs urgent repair because it is used by international truckers.
Meanwhile, Kitwe Mayor Ms. MWAYA complained that waste collection is a challenge in the city.
Ms MWAYA asked the Ministry to help the local authority.
