First Lady Urges Ministry Of General Education To Embrace Hearing Screening
By Etambuyu Katota- First Lady Esther Lungu has urged the Ministry of General Education to consider including Universal hearing screening as part of policy in the enrollment of grade one pupils.
Mrs. Lungu says this will ensure children have an equal opportunity to excel in education.
The First Lady notes that over 16-thousand learners in the country have hearing impairment.
Mrs. Lungu was speaking during the 2019 Graduation of the Starkey Hearing Institute for 12 students from Zambia, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda in Lusaka today.
She also praised Starkey Hearing Foundation for partnering with the Ministry of General Education to provide hearing aids to pupils.
Mrs. Lungu said Starkey Hearing Foundation has also provided over 10,000 hearing aids to 6.000 patients in the country.
And General Education Permanent Secretary Jobbicks Kalumba urged the graduates to remain steadfast and endeavor to make a difference.
Meanwhile, Founder of Starkey Hearing Foundation Bill Austin praised Zambians for maintaining peace and caring for the vulnerable.
