First Quantum Minerals -FQM-Trident Limited has awarded a seven percent salary increment to unionized employees in Kalumbila district.
The agreement was signed between FQM Trident Limited and National Union of Miners and Allied Workers -NUMAW-, Mine Workers Union of Zambia -MUZ-, Miners and Allied Workers Union -MAWU- and United Mine Workers Union of Zambia -UMUZ.
And NUMAW President SAUL SIMUJIKA, who spoke on behalf of the three unions said the unions had higher expectations for their members considering the fact that Trident Limited is currently the largest copper producer in the country.
Mr. SIMUJIKA said unions are alive to the fact that the mines in North-Western Province have low grade copper which is being extracted at a great cost.
And FQM Trident Limited Assistant General Manager, FREDERICK WOUTERS said management appreciates the many social and economic challenges that the employees are faced with.
Earlier, FQM Trident Limited Human Resources Manager BRIGHTON MWIINGA said the mine will continue to benchmark against market strengths to ensure it remains relevant as it rewards it’s employees.
