The first ever gemstone processing plant in Southern Africa is expected to open in Zambia next month.
Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary, Barnaby Mulenga says the 3-point 2 Million-US-Dollar Mutinta Jewellery processing plant will spur the much desired value addition in the mining sector.
Mr. Mulenga says his ministry will collaborate with other line ministries such as Commerce, Trade and Industry to create linkages for the processing plant to thrive.
The Permanent Secretary said this when he toured Mutinta Jewellery company limited in Lusaka.
He said the investment is timely because it will help in adding value to the minerals that have been mined in raw form for a longtime.
And Mutinta Jewellery Company Limited Board Chairperson, Msafiri Sinkala disclosed that his company will create over 2-hundred direct and 1-hundred indirect jobs once operational.
