Govt lifts suspension on day old chicks’ exports
Nais-Government has lifted the suspension on the issuance of permits for export of day old chicks, stock feed and hatching eggs with immediate effect.
The suspension was effected on July 25, 2021, following numerous concerns by livestock farmers and other stakeholders on the high prices and availability of day old chicks and stock feed.
However, Fisheries and Livestock Permanent Secretary ANNA SONGOLO says the situation has been brought under control as poultry products are now reasonably available on the local market.
Dr. SONGOLO says during the suspension period, government held several meetings with producers of stock feed and day-old chicks to amicably address the situation.
She told NAIS that her ministry will continue to monitor and regulate the exportation of all fisheries and livestock related products to secure local producers.
