Tourism Minister, Rodney Sikumba says government is devising mechanisms to resuscitate the tourism industry by providing a Covid-19 relief fund to support companies in the sector.
Mr. Sikumba says the government is looking into opportunities to source for the funds that will ensure businesses in the tourism sector continue operating.
He explained that it is important for the government to help the tourism sector for Zambia to increase its employment capacity especially for youths who lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mr. Sikumba was speaking in Livingstone during an interactive stakeholder cocktail party which was hosted by the Livingstone Tourism Association to celebrate his appointment as a Minister of Tourism.
Speaking at the same event, Livingstone Mayor, Constance Muleyabai called on the government to partner with local businesses in the Tourist Capital to revamp the tourism sector.
And Livingstone Tourism Association Acting Chairperson, Hilary Kashempa said the tourism industry needs concerted efforts to drive a new agenda in uplifting the sector.
