GOVT TO BUILD 16 NEW DAMS

Government will this July embark on the construction of 16 new dams and rehabilitate 6 existing ones across the country.
Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation Permanent Secretary JOE KALUSA said each dam will be constructed between 6 and 18 million Kwacha depending on Scope of work.
He said 11 dams will be constructed and rehabilitated by Zambia National Service while the remaining 11 will be given to a private contractor.
In an interview with ZNBC News, Mr. KALUSA said the construction of the facilities is aimed at addressing the wastage of rain water.
Meanwhile, Mr. KALUSA said Government has completed the construction of four dams in Monze, Luwingu and Solwezi while 2 other Dams are still under construction.
He said the Dams in Sinazongwe and Lundazi are at around 75 percent and 40 percent complete.
