GOVT TO COLLABORATE WITH CHIEFS – SICHALWE
By Peter Sichali
Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Lawrence Sichalwe says government has opened various platforms for collaboration with Chiefs on developmental issues through his Ministry.
Mr. Sichalwe says this is because government recognises traditional leaders as key stakeholders in national development.
Speaking at the installation of Jolly Temwananji Mulambya as Chief Mweniwisi in Mafinga, Mr. Sichalwe said chiefs should use provincial councils which interface with the house of Chief’s to advise Government on matters of development.
He also expressed optimism that the newly installed Chief Mweniwisi will work with government to foster development in his Chiefdom.
Meanwhile the Bulambya Royal Establishment -BRE- appealed to Government to consider constructing a secondary school in the Chiefdom.
BRE Chairperson Alisala Mulambya said people in the chiefdom are subjected to covering long distances to acquire education.
Dr. Mulambya said the absence of a secondary School has contributed to high illiteracy levels in the area.
He further noted that the existing primary schools do not have enough infrastructure to upgrade to a secondary school.
