GOVT TO ELIMINATE NEGLECTED TROPICAL DISEASES BY 2030

Health Minister SYLVIA MASEBO says the Government will ensure Neglected Tropical Diseases – NTDs are eliminated by 2030.
Ms. MASEBO says to date the Neglected Tropical Diseases – NTDs include Trachoma, Elephantiasis, Worms and Bilharzia.
She says one or two of these diseases may be eliminated within the next five years.
Ms. MASEBO was speaking in Lusaka today during the virtual meeting held to commemorate the World Neglected Tropical Diseases day at her office.
And Zambia has joined the globe to commemorate World Leprosy Day.
Ms. MASEBO has called on everyone to join hands in supporting people who have experienced Leprosy and raise awareness of the disease.
World Health Organisation – WHO Country Representative NATHAN BAKYAITA said a roadmap has been formulated to eliminate NTDs.
Dr. BAKYAITA said NTDs have remained a major concern and 70 percent of people globally received treatment in 2020.
Meanwhile, Lions Aid Zambia Board Chairperson HASTINGS CHITI said NTDs are a public health concern that require urgent attention.
