GOVT. TO INVEST IN LOCAL PHARMACEUTICALS
By Patricia Banda-Government has pledged to support local manufacturing companies in the pharmaceutical industry to enhance economic development.
Health Minister Jonas Chanda says Zambia can take advantage of the prevailing market in the neighbouring countries to export some drugs and help stabilise the Kwacha.
Dr Chanda was speaking today when he toured Yashi Life Sciences, a pharmaceutical company that has invested 22 million Dollars in Kafue district.
He said Government has learnt a lot of lessons from the Covid-19 and that one of them is that there is need to invest heavily in local companies in an event of lock downs.
And Dr. Chanda during the tour explained that Government may in the near future engage international pharmaceutical companies to partner with local companies in manufacturing of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Yashi Life Sciences Director Himashu Patel explained that the Zambia Medicine Regulatory Authority -ZAMRA- has approved 43 of its products to manufacture medicines in the range of Tablets, Capsules and liquid drugs.
