GOVT TO PROCURE COVID MATERIALS
Government says it will make resources available for the emergency procurement of COVID-19 prevention materials to address the second wave of the pandemic.
Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe says government will do everything possible to prevent the second wave of the pandemic from spreading further.
Speaking when he chaired the virtual National Disaster Management Technical Committee of Permanent Secretaries meeting, Mr. KABWE said the continued increase in the COVID-19 cases and deaths is worrying, hence the need for a prompt response from the multi-sectoral team.
He said going by the guidance from the Zambia National Public Health Institute, his office will further make available funds to all provinces, starting with those identified as hotspots.
Mr. Kabwe said government will not take a casual approach to the fight against COVID-19 and that citizens should abide by the health guidelines.
He noted that there is also need to motivate front line workers not only in the Ministry of Health but other line ministries like Home Affairs who have been instrumental in the implementation process and ensuring adherence.
And Zambia National Public Health Institute Director, Victor Mukonka expressed worry at the low compliance levels to COVID-19 guidelines by the public.
Professor Mukonka warned that the country risks more deaths in the coming days if no measures are taken.
He further called for increased manpower in the front line, not only from the health sector but other line Ministries.
