Govt working on SDGs progress report
(Zanis)National Development Planning Minister ALEXANDER CHITEME says Zambia is currently generating a national report on progress it has made towards the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals -SDGs.
Mr CHITEME says the document will be presented for review at the 2020 United Nations (UN) High Level Political Forum on SDG’s to be held in Network in July, 2020.
The Minister revealed this during a press briefing at his office this morning.
Mr CHITEME explained that the UN High Level Political Forum allows member States to share experiences on the progress individual countries have made in the implementation of SDGS.
He also revealed that government working closely with the UN, the private sector, civil society organisations and other stakeholders have developed a National SDG coordinating framework to guide the implementation, monitoring and reporting on SDGs.
The Minister said government has created a conducive environment for implementing SDGs and has since called for concerted efforts if Zambia is to successfully implement the goals.
Mr CHITEME further implored the media to play a critical role of raising awareness on the implementation of the SDGs.
Zambia will be among the eight countries that will present a Voluntary National Review (VNR) SDGs report for the first time to the High Level Political Forum.
