HAMUKALE ON IRRIGATION
By ZANIS:
Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale is concerned that irrigation activities to support agriculture production are currently dominated by commercial farmers.
Dr. Hamukale says most small-scale farmers have not been able to embrace irrigation technologies thereby creating an unfavorable competition in the sector.
He has proposed that a deliberate program be devised to promote irrigation small-scale farmers.
The Minister was speaking in Mazabuka when he toured Nanga Agriculture Research Station under the Ministry of Agriculture.
Dr. Hamukale commended staff at the research station for doing their best in undertaking research activities that aim at promoting farming in the province.
And Acting Principal Agricultural Research officer Eric Kooma informed the Minister the various irrigation technologies being promoted to enhance productivity among farmers.
