Illegal immigration threat to peace,Defence PS says
Arnold Tutu-Defence Permanent Secretary NORMAN CHIPAKUPAKU says illegal migration should be curbed as it is a threat to peace and stability to Zambia and other countries in the region.
Mr. CHIPAKUPAKU says the insecurity which some countries in the region are grappling with is due to insurgent activities sponsored by local and international elements.
He says if not curbed, these threats can spread to other countries.
Mr. CHIPAKUPAKU was speaking when he officially opened the Zambia – Angola 33rd Joint Permanent Commission -JPC- on Defence and Security at Sandys Creations Resort in Chilanga.
He implored the delegates to prioritise the growing threat of terrorism in the region during the deliberations.
Mr. CHIPAKUPAKU also emphasised that the JPC is important for the maintenance of peace and stability between Angola and Zambia and the region as a whole.
And Angola’s Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary ADMIRAL JOSE MARIA DE LIMA said Zambia and Angola should continue finding ways of resolving disputes affecting people of the two countries living along the common border.
He expressed happiness with the warm hospitality accorded to his delegation by Zambia.
The 33rd Zambia – Angola JPC on Defence and Security will close on Friday this week.
