ILLEGAL MAIZE EXPORT EXPOSED
(ZANIS) Ikelenge district authorities are concerned over reports of farmers in the border town selling maize to neighbouring countries.
Ikelenge District Commissioner, Abiud Kawangu, said it is disturbing that while the government is working towards an escalated grain reserve, some farmers are not appreciating the move.
Mr. Kawangu vowed that authorities will not allow the illegality to continue unabated because the same farmers receive inputs under the Fertilizer Input Support Programme -FISP- from the government.
The District Commissioner said this when he made an impromptu visit to Food Reserve Agency-FRA- Lwakela satellite depot.
And, speaking earlier, FRA Lwakela Satellite Depot Clerk, Jessie Thawe, disclosed that the Agency had only managed to procure 2-Thousand bags of maize since the depot opened in June 2020.
