Education Permanent Secretary JOEL KAMOKO has urged school heads to intensify the fumigation of learning facilities and put Covid-19 measures in place ahead of reopening.

Mr. KAMOKO says this is to ensure that schools are safe for both learners and teachers amid the pandemic.

He says the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Health has deployed monitors on the ground to monitor the progress.

Mr. KAMOKO, who was speaking to ZNBC News in a telephone interview, also noted that some schools have started fumigation hence encouraged others to do the same.

He says head teachers should work with the communities to ensure that school environments are safe for learners.

Meanwhile, Mr. KAMOKO says government is ready to work with teachers in ensuring that their conditions of service are improved.

He says this follows concerns by some Teachers Unions about the poor conditions of service and allowances for examination markers.

Mr. KAMOKO has encouraged Teacher Unions to engage the Ministry of Education on how conditions of service can be improved.
