K100m RELEASED FOR DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT
By Etambuyu Katota- Government has released 100 million Kwacha to facilitate for the rehabilitation and maintenance of diagnostic equipment in public health facilities.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Technical Services KENNEDY MALAMA says the rehabilitation includes oxygen equipment.
And Dr. MALAMA says the ministry has received reports of people self-diagnosing and prescribing medicines for themselves.
He has since warned against such acts.
MEANWHILE, Dr. MALAMA says 698 people have received the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine and has encouraged individuals who got the first dose to ensure they get the last one on the dates indicated.
He says government is on course to mobilize more vaccines for the country.
Dr. MALAMA has also disclosed that Chilenje first level hospital will be turned into a COVID-19 treatment center.
He says the country recorded 3,594 cases in the last 24 hours and 61 deaths.
Speaking during a COVID-19 media briefing, Dr. MALAMA said the number of deaths being recorded is worrisome and has called on the public to take the prescribed precautionary measures seriously.
He said health facilities are still overwhelmed because more admissions are being recorded while few discharges are being made.
And Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- Director Special Operations FELIX MANG’WATO said the Unit is complimenting the Ministry of Health efforts in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
He however called on Zambians to do their part in the fight against the pandemic.
Meanwhile, ZANACO donated 4.5 million Kwacha while China Geo donated COVID-19 equipment which include face masks.
