Patriotic Front -PF- Lusaka Province Chairperson Kennedy Kamba has expressed regret and apologized over the fracas at the party secretariat that resulted in two journalists getting injured.
In a statement, Mr. Kamba says what happened was unfortunate, unacceptable and does not define the characteristics of the PF.
He said all journalists must feel protected and safe when covering PF events and believes that the party has been working with the media in a very cordial manner.
Mr. Kamba said the PF respects and acknowledges the significant role of journalists in politics.
And Mr. Kamba has called on Journalists to reflect on contributions they are making in shaping the country’s democracy through responsible and ethical journalism.
This is as the media fraternity observes the World Press Freedom Day.
He says it is important that media personnel apply the fundamental principles of press freedom, assess the state of press freedom in the country and share ideas on how they can create a professional media space.
Mr. Kamba notes that there are also some individuals and institutions that are promoting hate speech and mudslinging in the name of media freedom.
