KASANDA PRAISES ZAMBIA CORRECTIONAL SERVICE
By Paul Shalala-
Chief Government Spokesperson CHUSHI KASANDA has praised the Zambia Correctional Service for the transformation it is making at the Mukobeko Maximum Security Facility in Kabwe.
Ms KASANDA, who is also Information and Media Minister, says the Zambia Correctional Service has made strides in implementing President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s directive to provide a conducive environment for all inmates countrywide.
Speaking after she toured the Mukobeko Maximum Security Facility, Ms KASANDA said the mattresses and bunk-beds which have been provided to inmates show how committed the New Dawn Government is to uplift people’s lives.
The Chief Government Spokesperson said President HICHILEMA’s directive came because he experienced first-hand the conditions in correctional facilities when he was incarcerated for 127 days during his treason trial.
She said the Zambia Correctional Service must be commended because it is implementing what the government stands for.
Meanwhile, Zambia Correctional Service Commissioner General FREDERICK CHILUKUTU said 40 million Kwacha has been allocated in this year’s national budget to provide for bunk-beds, beddings and mattresses for all inmates countrywide.
Mr. CHILUKUTU said the commission will buy 25,000 mattresses on the market and build 12 thousand bunk-beds from its workshops in Kabwe and Lusaka.
He added that by end of this year, all inmates will have access to a bunk-bed and a mattress.
