Kitwe Mayor Kang’ombe Fired As PF Provincial Vice Chair
The Patriotic Front Central Committee has removed Christopher Kango’mbe as Copperbelt Provincial Vice Chairperson following gross misconduct.
PF Secretary General Davies Mwila says Mr Kang’ombe, however, remains an ordinary member of the Party and Mayor of Kitwe .
Mr Mwila has explained during a Press briefing in Lusaka that Mr Kango’mbe was given Seven days to exculpate himself but refused to avail himself before the disciplinary committee.
He said the Central Committee resolved to uphold the recommendation of the Executive of the Provincial Executive Committee to remove Mr Kango’mbe from his position.
The PF SG further said Mr Kango’mbe, however, has the right to appeal the decision of the Central committee in July at the party’s General Conference.
He warned that the party will not tolerate indiscipline from its members regardless of positions the hold because it is a fundamental value and principle for the growth and strengthening of the party.
And Mr Mwila said President Edgar Lungu’s decision to renew a contract or make changes is a preserve and not an entitlement.
He said it is unacceptable for anyone to hold the appointing authority or party at ransom once one is appointed or removed from public office.
The SG noted that public offices are not personal to holder and must not take the non renewal of contracts as rejection.
Meanwhile, Mr Mwila has also disclosed that the Central Committe has tasked the ministry of energy to quickly conclude the negotiations between CEC and ZESCO to safeguard the 4- hundred jobs .
He said the committee also resolved that the constituted Inter-institutional task force comprising Industrial Development Corporation- IDC, ZESCO, Ministry of Finance and others should design a long term solution on efficiency supply of electricity on the Copperbelt.
Mr Mwila said the team must negotiate a short term power supply agreement as the long term is being sought.
