MARIA LANGA FOR FISH FARMING
Chilanga Member of Parliament Maria Langa has pledged to encourage cooperatives to engage in fish farming as a way of eradicating poverty.
Speaking when she launched a fish harvest at Breathing Fish Farm in Chinyanja ward, the Member of Parliament said aquaculture is a strategic sector for economic growth and diversification.
Ms. Langa said there is need to influence youths in the constituency to venture into fish farming.
She said Chilanga is home to the fisheries department and it is time for the local people to take advantage of every opportunity to venture into aquaculture.
Ms. Langa added that it is impressive to see people follow through President Edgar Lungu’s calls to open more fish farms in the country.
Meanwhile, Zambian Aquaculture Co-operative Society Board Chairperson Collins Kachaka said he has profited massively from fish farming.
Dr. Kachaka, who is the owner of Breathing Fish farm said one pond can produce a profit of up to 81 thousand Kwacha every four months.
