Mbala-Kasaba Bay road earmarked for upgrading
ZANIS-Northern Province Minister LEONARD MBAO says government will prioritize upgrading of the Mbala – Kasaba Bay road as part of efforts to develop the Northern Tourism Circuit.
Mr. MBAO says there is urgent need to work on the road and put up a bridge across Lufubu River to connect Mpulungu to Nsumbu and Kasaba Bay in Nsama District.
He revealed that government wants to enhance road and air connectivity to tourism sites as can be seen from the allocation of 150 million Kwacha towards works on Kasaba Bay airport.
The Provincial Minister says the development of Kasaba Bay Airport will be a launch pad towards actualization Northern Tourism Circuit.
Mr. MBAO, who is also Mpulungu Constituency Member of Parliament, said the Mbala – Kasaba Bay road via Mpulungu, is not only important to the development of tourism but economic growth in general.
The Provincial Minister said this in an interview with ZANIS after inspecting the road and a proposed site for the construction of a Bridge across Lufubu River.
Meanwhile, Lukwesa Village headman DICKSON KATAI said constructing a bridge across the crocodile infested Lufubu River will enhance safety of local people in the area.
Mr. KATAI added that the poor state of the road is also hampering the movement of people and agricultural produce.
And speaking in a separate interview, Ministry of Tourism Northern Region Coordinator FRANCIS CHIWELE observed that improving infrastructure and connectivity to tourist sites will increase in-flow of tourists.
Mr. CHIWELE said the development of Kasaba Bay is important to boosting economic activities in the Northern Tourism Circuit.
