MBANGWETA DEFENDS LOCAL CONTRACTORS
(ZANIS) Western Province Minister KAPELWA MBANGWETA has observed that a number of stalled projects in the area are those given to external contractors as compared to local contractors.
Mr MBANGWETA noted that most external contractors have abandoned projects in the area while those done by local contractors have been completed.
He cited the construction of the district administration block and civic centre in Nkeyema among others that have been abandoned despite being partially paid for.
The Minister has since suggested that future projects be given to local contractors for easy communication and verification, whenever challenges arise.
ZANIS reports Mr. MBANGWETA was speaking when he addressed civil servants and cooperating partners in Nkeyema District.
He, however, said local contractors need to be empowered by giving them projects as means of allowing them to benefit from the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).
The Provincial Minister also appreciated the role some cooperating partners have played towards the development of the country and commended World Vision Zambia for building a zonal hospital in Munkuye and Japan Tobacco International for making a road and b
ilding a bridge in Kamanga area.
