Mufumbwe set for maize bumper harvest
Zanis-Mufumbwe District is expected to record a bumper harvest for the 2022 maize production following a 19 percent increase as indicated by the crop forecast.
This year’s projection stands at 29,318.7 Metric Tonnes while the 2021 yield was at 23,493 Metric Tonnes.
Mufumbwe District Agriculture Coordinator, Peter Maseka says the increase is coupled with an increase in productivity per hectare.
However, this good crop performance is likely to be counteracted by the market challenge following reduction in the number of satellite depots by the Food Reserve Agency for Mufumbwe from 12 to 6.
