Munali Nickel Mine rumps up production despite Covid 19 Situation
ZANIS…Management at Munali Nickel Mine in Mazabuka says robust and practical measures have been put in place to sustain production even in the face of COVID-19 challenge.
Mine Chief Executive officer Anton Mauve has revealed that production of nickel has been steadily increasing in the past six months with the firm recording an increase of about 20 percent in the production of the mineral.
Mr Mauve has explained that from an initial production of 75 metric touners of nickel ole monthly early last year, the mine has increased production several fords hitting 360 metric toners in recent months.
He said the mine has embraced practical COVID-19 measures to ensure the pandemic does not disrupt mine operations especially that the majority of the workforce were commuting from Kafue and Mazabuka.
Mr Mauve was speaking when Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale visited the Mine to appreciate the COVID-19 prevention model that the firm has adopted to keep afloat in the wake of threats to labour posed by the viral diseases.
He has assured of close partnership with government in containing the spread of the pandemic indicating that the mine has since written to the Ministry of Health seeking guidance on how the coronavirus vaccine can be accessed.
And Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale has implored the corporate world not to tire in assisting government with resources needed to fight the escalating number of corona virus infections being recorded on a daily basis.
Dr Hamukale has noted that government requires a lot of financial and material support especially that the COVID 19 challenge still requires huge budgetary allocations in order to effectively fight the pandemic.
The Minister has however praised management at Munali Nickel Mine for taking practical steps to minimize the corona virus infections amongst its workforce.
