MUTATI: GOVT TO ENHANCE SECURITY FOR MOBILE MONEY AGENTS
Technology and Science Minister, FELIX MUTATI says Government is working with various stakeholders to enhance security for mobile money operators in the country.
Mr. MUTATI says government is working with a cyber security team, financial institutions and security wings to ensure mobile operators are protected.
He says government is also looking at implementing an insurance policy through mobile money operations aimed at giving agents insurance cover during their operations.
The minister says this is because mobile money agents are now prone to cyber crimes and abductions as witnessed in recent occurrences.
Mr. MUTATI says once the insurance cover is provided, it will help the over 1-hundred thousand registered mobile money Agents to operate in a safer environment.
He says this move will boost the country’s digital financial strategy which is providing jobs for average Zambians like Mobile money agents.
Mr. MUTATI was speaking during a press briefing by AYO Zambia Limited in Lusaka today.
And speaking at the same event, AYO Zambia Limited Chief Executive Officer ANDREW NKOLOLA said since 2020, the firm has successfully provided insurance cover to over 2 million people through MTN Zambia in its mobile money operations.
