National parks threatened-Sikumba
Fortune Malata-Tourism Minister RODNEY SIKUMBA says Zambia’s National parks are threatened with encroachments and poaching.
Mr. SIKUMBA says his ministry is currently grappling with addressing human animal conflicts which are rampant in many national parks.
He says there is need to address issues conservation if the country is to realise maximum benefits from the tourism sector.
Mr. SIKUMBA says his ministry has targeted that the Tourism sector should contribute atleast 15 percent to the country’s GDP.
He was speaking when he launched the Wildlife Discovery Center in the Lusaka National Park.
Mr. SIKUMBA says there is need to restock animals in the park whose Tourism visitation has reduced from 17 thousand to three thousand yearly.
And British High Commissioner to Zambia NICHOLAS WOOLLEY says his government will continue supporting Zambia in its conservation programs
Mr. WOOLLEY said Conservation is key in managing the tourism sector.
