NHIMA registers 1m members
Lucky Phiri-The National Health Insurance Authority – NHIMA – has registered over 1-point 3-million principal members benefiting nearly 5-hundred thousand people on the scheme.
And Labour and Social Security Minister BRENDA TAMBATAMBA has directed NHIMA to register more vulnerable citizens and those in the informal sector on the scheme.
Ms. TAMBATAMBA says the authority must also ensure people in the rural areas are registered.
She says government is committed to implementing reforms meant to make the scheme more effective in delivering quality Health Care services.
The Minister said this through Labour and Social Security Permanent Secretary BONIFACE NALISHUWA at the First NHIMA Health Care and Media Awards in Lusaka.
Ms TAMBATAMBA said the authority must ensure its mandate of NOT leaving anyone behind on the scheme is actualized.
She has advised the Authority to work on its online registration platform so that people are not inconvenienced when accessing the service.
And Information and Media Permanent Secretary KENNEDY KALUNGA has challenged the media to take interest in the government recruitment of Health workers so that people are not misled by social media reports.
Mr. KALUNGA said the media should strive for factual and balanced reporting on issues of universal health coverage.
Meanwhile, NHIMA Director General JAMES KAPESA said the authority has so far invested 3-hundred million Kwacha in various health facilities across the country.
