NKANDU CALLS FOR INVESTMENT IN SPORTS

Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu has called for investment in Sports infrastructure to enable the country produce Athletes that will reap medals.
Nkandu says it is worth noting that the country has in the past focused on performance without investing in the required infrastructure to support the grooming of Athletes.
He says it is the mandate of the new Government to see to it that infrastructure is erected to support Zambia’s quest of investing in grassroots sports development.
The Minster was speaking when he toured OYDC- Zambia Sports Development Centre in Lusaka today.
Nkandu has appealed to various Centres to emulate OYDC which is a prudent user of resources and a talent promotion centre.
He also pledged to link the facility to other line Ministries so that they can generate revenue.
And OYDC Zambia Sports Development Centre Chief Executive officer Fredrick Chitangala Disclosed that the centre has not been paid its monthly grant of 39-thousand Kwacha from May 2021.
Chitangla has since appealed to the Minister that to look into the matter and consider raising the grant to 1-hundred thousand Kwacha per month.
Meanwhile, Dickson Jere who is in charge of legal affairs at the centre has called on the Minister to address the land encroachment issues surrounding the premises.
