Government has warned Oil Marketing Companies -OMCs- that they risk having their licenses revoked if they do not follow the statutory Instrument which stipulates that 50 percent transportation of oil be allocated to local transporters.
Energy Minister Mathew Nkhuwa said this when he addressed oil tanker drivers in Lusaka today.
Mr. Nkhuwa said its government policy to ensure the statutory Instrument is followed by all oil marketing companies.
He disclosed that currently local oil transporters are given 13 percent hence the move to revise the condition to 50 percent.
The Minister further called on oil tanker drivers to remain calm as government deals with their issues.
This afternoon local tanker drivers staged a peaceful protest asking government to review the statutory Instrument which stipulates that 50 percent transportation of oil be given to local transporters.
