OVER 7,000 HOUSEHOLDS AFFECTED
By Ruth Chayinda
Over 7000 households have been affected by floods countrywide.
And Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- National Coordinator GABRIEL POLLEN says One thousand and 66 have been displaced by floods.
Dr POLLEN says the unit has so far managed to find temporal shelter for 4 hundred and 33 households in some areas affected by floods.
He says the families living in temporary shelter are in need of various provisions and relief and has since called on private entities and cooperating partners to come on board and support Government in meeting the needs of the affected communities.
Dr POLLEN said this when he received a donation from the First National Bank -FNB- ranging from food items and hygiene products valued at a 100 thousand kwacha.
He said the donation will go to the intended people and will help the affected households.
Dr POLLEN noted that infrastructure countrywide has also been affected due to the floods as critical bridges have been cut off while some schools have had their roofs blown off leading to children not attending school.
And FNB Board Chairperson RICHARD MAZOMBWE said it is unfortunate that most of the communities affected by floods are those that are already disadvantaged.
Mr. MAZOMBWE said the bank will see how best to continue rendering support to the flood victims.
