PENDING DISPLACEMENTS
By Lupindula Mwewa:
Over one thousand households along the Chingola -Solwezi road up to Mutanda will be displaced to pave way for the construction of a dual carriage way.
The Chingola – Mutanda dual carriage way will be constructed under a Public Private Partnership agreement between the government and Bert Pave Zambia limited at a cost of three hundred million kwacha.
Project Environmental Consultant MOSES CHAMFYA says all structures that are within hundred meters of the existing road will have to be demolished to pave way for the construction of the road.
And North Western Province Permanent Secretary GRANDSON KATAMBI says the construction of the dual carriage is important as it will ease the movements between Copperbelt and North Western Province.
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting held to discuss the road construction Colonel KATAMBI said there is need for traditional leaders to work swiftly to achieve the project on time.
He says the construction of the road is going to create employment for locals as they will be required to offer their services during and after the construction phase.
Once complete, the two hundred and six kilometers road will be maintained under Public Private Partnership for thirty years.
