PLAN TO SAVE ZAMBEZI WILDLIFE LAUNCHED
The Ministry of Tourism and Arts has launched a ten-year General Management Plan to protect and conserve wildlife in Lower West Zambezi Game Management Area
Tourism and Arts Minister Charles Banda announced this in Sioma District through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Reverend Howard Sikwela at the launch of the General Management Plan.
Mr. Banda has said the plan has been established to protect and conserve the diverse wildlife resources, bird life and the area’s eco-system for economic, recreational, educational and scientific purposes while allowing other sustainable land use options.
He says the plan is a necessary tool not only for effective wildlife management, but also for addressing broader concerns such as sustainable development of the game management area.
And World-Wide Fund WWF Zambia Country Director Nachilala Nkombo has said the organization funded the production of the Plan because it will help in the successful management of natural resources.
Meanwhile Department of National Parks and Wildlife Director, Paul Zyambo has assured of the successful implementation of the ten-year Management Plan.
