Police Impound 7 Trucks Smuggling Mealie Meal
(ZANIS)Police in Ndola’s Maria Chimona area have intercepted and impounded seven trucks loaded with bags of mealie meal meant to be smuggled in to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Ndola District Commissioner George Chisulo who rushed to the area applauded police officers for impounding the trucks carrying several bags of mealie meal destined for illegal sale in DRC.
Mr Chisulo says the number of mealie meal bags impounded will be disclosed after offloading and verification at Kansenshi police station.
He says smuggling of mealie meal into the DRC is one of the contributing factor to high prices of mealie meal in the district.
Two weeks ago, Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo directed the Copperbelt police command to intensify patrols along border areas where smuggling of mealie meal was rampant.
