By Justine Akakulubelwa:
Procurement professionals have been warned that government will Not condone pilfering of public resources using the procurement system.
President Hakainde Hichilema says he will not relent until sanity is restored to the procurement processes and systems, to save money meant for National Development.
The President says there is need to harmonise the Public Management Finance Act and the Public Procurement Act, to promote prudent management of public resources.
President Hichilema says time has come to revisit the procurement system to ensure prudent use of public resources.
This is contained in a speech read on his behalf by Southern Province Minister Cornelius Mweetwa, at the official opening of the 9th Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply -ZIPS- National Conference, in Livingstone today.
And ZIPS President Mwelwa Chibwe called on all procurement and supply professionals in Zambia to execute their duties in a transparent, economic, efficient and corrupt free manner.
Mr. Chibwe said this will guarantee value for money.
He has therefore advised the government and private organisations to ensure all procurement positions are filled by procurement professionals certified by ZIPS.
