PRODUCTION AT KASENSELI SUSPENDED
By Wilson Mulinda:
The Ministry of Mines has suspended production at Kasenseli Gold Mine in Mwinilunga District.
Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe says this follows his visit to the mine where he discovered the poor safety conditions that workers are subjected to.
Mr. Kabuswe says investigations at the Mwinilunga mine in North western Province has revealed that Kasenseli mine also has unplanned mining parameters.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. KABUSWE said many lives have been lost at the mine due to lack of safety equipment.
He said operations at the mine will remain suspended until safety measures are put in place.
Mr. Kabuswe said the suspension will remain effective until the Ministry is satisfied that mining areas are conducive and meet the required safety standards.
The Minister further stated that the ministry will soon give a way forward on the status of employees of the mine.
