RECAPITALIZE MALA SHOE FACTORY – MWEWA
Zambia National Service Deputy Commander Major General REUBEN MWEWA has called for the recapitalization of MALA Shoe factory in Ndola and fitting of modern technology.
General MWEWA says the shoe factory has the potential to produce quality military footwear for the Defense Force.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Zambian Embassy in Ethiopia, Charge D’ Affaires, NADINE CHABWE, General MWEWA said plans are underway to recapitalize the factory and train staff in modern technology.
He said his delegation is in Ethiopia on a familiarization tour of the advanced and thriving leather Industry with a view of acquainting ZNS with the current technological advances in Leather and Footwear manufacturing.
The Deputy ZNS Commander said huge expenses on Government would be saved if the factory in Ndola can produce the footwear for the Defense Force.
General MWEWA further said the factory in its current state is unable to meet the demand for footwear from mines and schools on the Copperbelt.
He said reviving the factory to full capacity will also see the much needed job creation especially among the youth.
And Mrs. CHABWE said she is confident that the familiarization tour will help scale up the leather industry in Zambia and enhance the generation of employment.
Ethiopia has one of the largest livestock sectors in the world and the formal Leather and Leather products sector has been in existence for years.
This is according to a statement released to ZNBC News by First Secretary- Press and Tourism at the Zambian Embassy, Addis Ababa, INUTU MWANZA.
