Resolve to fight grand corruption unquestionable-HH
Julius Sakala-President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has reiterated the unquestionable need to resolve grand corruption in Zambia.
The President says under this corruption, resources have been diverted from productive sectors of the economy, such as education, and instead ended up in the pockets of a small group of corrupt elements.
President HICHILEMA, who is in New York attending the United Nations General Assembly, however says government has already set out measures, aimed at winning the war against corruption.
He says among these measures is the political will for all law enforcement agencies to function independently, while being supported adequately with funding to prop up their technical expertise.
This is according to a statement availed to ZNBC news by Special Assistant to the President and Presidential Spokesperson, ANTHONY BWALYA.
Meanwhile, President HICHILEMA says his government will aggressively expand opportunities for access to top quality education for all Zambians.
The President says this is in order to build a Zambia, which is prosperous and equitable.
The Head of State says this is consistent with the UPND government’s agenda to create a knowledge based economy for the future.
President HICHILEMA explained that expanded access to quality education for all will not remain a rare privilege for a few, but a basic necessity, which must be made available to all citizens.
He has however reiterated that government will first rebuild and rapidly grow the economy and address issues such as the debt crisis, which are a pre-requisite to creating excess capacity in the education sector.
