Respect Traditional Leaders-Chitotela Tells Tour Operators
By Etambuyu Katota-Tourism and Arts Minister Ronald Chitotela has urged operators in Game Management Areas to respect traditional leaders and those living in the communities they operate from.
Mr. Chitotela says there is need for strengthened partnerships with the private sector and communities in order to enhance the safeguarding of wildlife and protection of Game Management Areas from encroachment.
He says government will continue to work on all possible areas that will help in the creation of an enabling environment for all players in the management of wildlife resources.
He says the National Parks and wildlife Policy was reviewed in order to incorporate the current prevailing issues in the sector.
Mr. Chitotela has assured Community Based Natural Resource Management- CBNRM -that the money owed will be paid out.
He was speaking when he officially opened the third National Community Based Natural Resource Management conference in Lusaka today.
And, Zambia National Community Resources Board Association President Felix Shanungu said revenue sharing from hunting licenses and concession fees remains a big challenge.
He appealed to government to ensure all funds owned to local communities are paid by May 2020 as communities depend on them for their livelihoods.
