(ZANIS ) Senior Chief Chiwala of Masaiti district on the Copperbelt province says President Edgar Lungu’s mention on early marriages and teenage pregnancies in his national address yesterday deserves commendation from all stakeholders.
Senior Chief Chiwala says it is gratifying to see the Head of State touch on serious matters such as early child marriages which the nation is currently grappling with.
The traditional leader says the involvement of traditional leaders in the campaign against early marriages and teenage pregnancies by government was a well calculated move as fruits can now be seen.
ZANIS reports that Chief Chiwala said President Lungu’s speech on early marriages will send a strong message to parents and guardians who perpetuate the vice.
President Lungu in his address to the nation on the application of national values and principles yesterday said early marriages and teenage pregnancies are harmful to girls and that government will continue implementing programmes aimed at combating the vice.
President Lungu said with a combination of efforts from traditional leaders and other partners, the cases of early marriages and teenage pregnancies have started reducing.
