SOUTH FARMERS WARNED ON POOR FARMING PRACTICES
By Ephraim Chiluba
Monze Central Member of Parliament JACK MWIIMBU has challenged traditional leaders in Southern province to discourage farming methods that contribute to the negative impact of climate change.
Mr. MWIIMBU says the perennial flooding experienced in Monze and other parts of southern province are as a result of increased human activities along the river banks.
He says there is need to take precautionary measures to mitigate the recurrence of disasters that have afflicted southern province.
Mr. MIWIMBU who is also Home Affairs minister was speaking when he visited Monze district to assess the extent of damage caused by heavy rains.
He has since assured the people of southern province that the government through the vice president’s office is determined to find solutions to mitigate the disasters.
And Monze district administrative officer GORTTI BBALO said infrastructure such as culverts and bridges have been affected forcing people to use canoes especially to move from one place to the other to access services such as health.
