Sprinter Rhodah Njovu makes history again
Chansa Kunda-Sprinter RHODO NJOVU has yet again become the first female Athlete to qualify to the Olympic games in two events on home soil.
NJOVU’S latest hallmark is her qualification to the Olympics in the 200 hundred meters race after clocking 22 point 69 seconds surpassing the qualifying time of 22 point 80 seconds.
She has become the first female Athlete in the country’s history that will be going to the Olympics having beat the qualifying time in two events and not as a wild card.
NJOVU first sealed her qualification to the Olympic games when she clocked 11 point 12 seconds beating the qualifying time of 11 point 15 seconds in the 100 meters race.
And speaking to ZNBC Sports News during the international All Comers Meet competition held at the National Heores Stadium today, Zambia Athletics Association -ZAA- President ELIAS MPONDELA said he is elated with NJOVU’S milestone.
MPONDELA said the country now has a double opportunity to compete for medals at the Olympics in the 100 and 200 meters race categories.
He said with such records being attained the efforts by ZAA to produce world class Athletes are bearing fruits.
MPONDELA said the ZAA is proud of NJOVU’S new record adding that he hopes more Athletes can follow suit and qualify to the Olympic games.
