Mphatso Dimbani-Policy Monitoring and Research Centre -PMRC- has urged government to take advantage of the Zambia National Service mechanized farms to embark on winter maize production.
PMRC Acting Executive Director SYDNEY MWAMBA says Climate change has continued to negatively impact the agricultural sector.
Mr. MWAMBA says the reduction in the production of staple food crops is as a result of reduced and delayed rainfall, which the country has experienced in the recent years which will led to a prolonged dry spell.
He further noted that the 2021/2022 farming season has experienced a low yielding in selected crops.
Mr. MWAMBA has further urged Government to continue empowering farmers to practice Climate- Smart Agriculture as well as give them irrigation equipments.
