By Hector Simfukwe
A parliamentarian says the opposition should thank President Edgar Lungu for spearheading legal reforms relating to the conduct of election in Zambia.
Bwana Mukubwa Member of Parliament Jonas Chanda says whilst other governments only amended some clauses in the Public Order Act,President Lungu’s government that has shown willingness to repeal the entire act.
Dr. Chanda says the government listened to numerous complaints from stakeholders regarding the Public Order Act hence the decision to take it to Parliament for improvements.
He wondered why the opposition complain about the country’s laws during elections but are not willing to change them when given an opportunity.
Dr. Chanda told ZNBC that the PF has embarked on legal reforms in order to allow Zambians such as women, the disabled and the youth to playing an active role in the affairs of the country.
He said it is sad that some opposition parties have gone to an extent of blocking the creation of more constituencies in the country when this has been the cry of opposition members of Parliament.
Dr. Chanda said he is hopeful that Member of Parliament who mean well for this country will support the enactment of laws that will benefit the masses.
