Thokozile Granted Bail
By Tamara Muswala
A Kitwe woman who allegedly assaulted her 8 year old stepson, has been
granted 10,000 Kwacha bail in her own recognizance plus two working sureties.
This is in a matter where Thokozile Hachilala is facing one count of assault.
When the matter came up for possible start of trial in the Kitwe magistrate court today, Thokozile asked the court not to proceed with trial and requested that she be given 30 days in which to find a lawyer to represent her in court.
But Chief Resident Magistrate Yvvone Nalombe objected the 30 days period saying it is too much time and instead gave her two weeks in which to look for a lawyer.
Magistrate Nalombe earlier requested for a report from a social welfare officer Kombe Kamanga on the whereabouts of the victim.
Ms. Kamanga told the court that the victim has been in their custody from the time that he was discharged from hospital on March 2, 2020.
The matter has been adjourned to April 8, 2020 for commencement of trial.
And Magistrate Nalomba has warned all the witnesses in the case to be
present when the matter comes up on April 8th.
