TOURISM PS ON CULTURE
By Patricia Banda:
Tourism and Arts Permanent Secretary Auxilia Ponga says Government appreciates the exchange of cultures between Zambia and Egypt.
Dr. Ponga says the two countries have enjoyed cultural relations since 2018.
She says this is evident by many visits of Egyptian Artists to Zambia.
Dr. Ponga was speaking in Lusaka during the launch of a book on Zambian short stories translated into Arabic at the Egyptian Embassy.
And Egyptian Ambassador to Zambia Ahmed Mostafa said the translation of Zambian short stories into Arabic will help sell the books in Arabic countries.
Meanwhile, Salwa Elhamamsy, wife of Egyptian Ambassador to Zambia who helped in the translation of the book from English to Arabic said it is important for African writers to tell their stories.
Meanwhile, President of the Zambian Federation of Authors and Artists Antony Lupeke paid tribute to the Embassy for supporting the works of the Zambian writers.
When it comes to churning short stories or amy stories that reflect our cultures and life styles, local writers are doing fine…the only hassle thwarting their endeavors is lack of support from government…Our government should give us support in any form …what was once the writer’s only hope, ADF, no longer exist…writers just hear K2 billiion, which is meant for art develop, remain split and inacessible. We need this money to nurture our talents. On the other hand, it gives me much pleasure to be part and parcel of the first ever Zambia/Egypt anthology. My story is entiled ONE WILL CRY. Enjoy reading!
