TURN MINE PRIMARY INTO MONUMENT IN HONOUR OF DR KAUNDA
(ZANIS) The Ministry of General Education in Mufulira district has proposed that the Mine Primary School where First President, Kenneth Kaunda was Headteacher be turned into a national monument in honor of his legacy.
Dr. Kaunda was Mine Primary School Head teacher from 1948 to 1949 before he left to join politics.
Mufulira District Education Standards Officer, Open and Distance Learning, Samuel Bwalya said turning the school into a national monument will enable the school to keep the legacy that Dr. Kaunda left.
Mr. Bwalya said Dr. Kaunda has left a rich legacy where growth of education is concerned in the district.
And school headteacher, Joseph Chishimba said the institution will ensure Dr. Kaunda’s legacy lives on by making sure that every learner is given an opportunity to access quality education.
He said after Dr. Kaunda’s departure for political campaigns, his wife Betty took over the mantle as head of the school from 1949 to 1950.
